Copper, appliances, and the gap before permanent power

Phoenix builds fast and wide, which means a great deal of high-value material sits on open ground for months at a time. The pattern we are called about most often is the same one every superintendent in the Valley already knows: copper out of a subdivision at the rough-in stage, appliances out of homes the week before they are secured, and fuel out of anything parked overnight.

The exposure window is the stretch between grading and permanent power, and on a large metro site that window runs long. A fixed camera system needs the transformer that has not arrived yet. A guard covers one gate of a parcel that might run a quarter mile. A trailer covers the whole footprint from twenty feet up on its own solar, and moves to the next phase when this one closes.

Because the uplink is satellite rather than cellular, coverage does not depend on which carrier happens to be strong on that parcel — which matters more on the metro fringe, out past Buckeye, Laveen and the far southeast valley, than most people expect.
